Refrigerator Wisdom: A Data Manifesto
Before the invention of the refrigerator, we shopped, cooked, and ate very differently than we do now, due to the expansion of the cold chain, and the acceptance of the refrigerator as an expected piece of technology in most homes. my own research on the history of refrigeration has led me to a theory: that we can use the physical and cultural properties of the refrigerator to create a blueprint for making sense of the ethical, moral, and logistical challenges of living in a datafied world. The model is based on already existing human behaviors, ones that have been shaped over a century of interacting with the technology of our fridges.
